Poly(trimethyleneterephthalate)(PTT)homopolymerandaseriesofPoly(trimethyleneterephthalateco-1,4-cyclohexylenedimethyleneterephthalate)Copolyesters(PTCT)havingintrinsicviscositiesof0.55~0.88dl/gweresynthesizedbymeltpolycondensationandcopolycondensationinthepresenceofmetalliccatalysts,withvaryingfeedratiosof1,3-propanediol(PDO)and1,4-cyclohexanedimethanol(CHDM).Practically,theCHDMcomonomercontentsinthecopolyesterswerehigherthanthoseinthefeeds.Theeffectofcyclohexanedimethylenestructureonthethermalpropertiesofthecopolyesterswereinvestigatedusingdifferentialscanningcalorimetry(DSC)andthermalgravimetricanalysis(TGA).TheexperimentalresultindicatedthatthecopolyestershavebetterthermalstabilitythanPTT.Theglasstransitiontemperatures(Tg)andmeltingtemperature(Tm)ofthecopolyestersweredifferentlyincreasedwithanincreaseintheCTcontent.However,nomeltingtemperaturewasobservedinthecopolyesterwiththeCTmolarfractionatabout35%-49%.
