ThispaperreviewsthedevelopmentofbiodegradablethermoplasticstarchpolymersattheUniversityofQueenslandsince1995.Biodegradableplasticsareofsignificantcurrentinterestinthepackagingandplasticsindustry.Starch-basedthermoplasticsarerelativelycheapandmoreimportantlymanufacturedusingarenewableresource.Howevertraditionallymostthermoplasticstarchpolymerssufferfromlowwaterresistanceandlossofmechanicalpropertieswhenincontactwithwater.
