Itisusuallyknownthatorganicfluorescentmoleculesexhibitstrongemissioninsolution,comparedtothatintheaggregationstate.Interestingly,certainorganicmoleculesshowratherweakfluorescenceinsolution,buttheybecomestronglyemissivewhenaggregationoccurs.Silole(silacyclopentadiene)moleculesshowAggregation-InducedEmission(AIE)featureasreportedbyTang,Zhuandtheircoworkers;namely,theyemitweaklyinsolution,butstronglyintheaggregationstate.Similarly,tetraphenylethylenes(TPE)derivativesshowAIEfeature.Infact,silolederivativeswithAIEfeaturehaveattractedmuchmoreeffortsandeveninterestingchemo-/biosensorshavebeendevelopedbasedonsilolemolecules.AquaternizedtetraphenylethylenesalthasbeensuccessfullyusedasafluorescentprobeforG-quadruplexformationandreal-timemonitoringofDNAfolding
