Hollowglassmicrosphere(HGM)hasmanypotentialapplicationsduetoitsspecialhollowstructure,lowdensity,andmechanicalpropertieswhichcanbedesignedwithitsshapeandwallthickness.SuperhardnessHGMhasbeenproducedandappliedtothermoplasticcompositesinrecentyears[1,2].Toimprovetheinterfacialadhesionbetweenfillerandpolymermatrix,thefillersurfaceisnecessarytobetreatedc3].Silane-couplingagentsandmaleicanhydridegraftedpolypropylene(PP-g-MA)weresimultaneouslyusedtomodifyHGMinthiswork.HGMandmodifiedHGMreinforcedpolypropylenecompositeswerepreparedbymeltblendingviaatwin-screwextruder.Comparedwithpurepolypropylene,thecompositeshadanobviousdecreaseddensity.ThetensilestrengthandelasticitymodulusofcompositesweregreatlyimprovedaftertheHGMwasmodified.ThescanningelectronmicroscopeimagesofimpactfracturedsurfaceindicatedthattheinterfacialadhesionbetweenHGMandpolypropylenematrixwasobviouslyincreasedbysurfacemodification.
