Inthepaper,flaxfibersweremodifiedbyepoxypropanepriortodegummingtopreparefinerfibers.ThestructureandpropertiesofetherifiedflaxfibersafterdegummingweremeasuredbyFTIR,WXRD,fiberfineness,fiberlengthandtensiletest.Resultsshowedthattheoptimaletherificationconditionsofflaxfiberswere:pre-treatedinalkalisolutionofNaOHconcentration6%for60minatambienttemperature,thenetherifiedatepoxypropane/fiberweightratio0.4at65oCfor90min.Comparedwithnativeflaxfibersandflaxfibersafternormalchemicaldegumming,theetherifiedflaxfibersafterdegummingpossessedbetterfineness,decreasedfiberlengthandtenacity,andlesscrystalline,butstillmaintainedthenatureofcellulose.
