Inthisstudy,anorganoclay,ALA–MMT,waspreparedbytheionicexchangereactionofmontmorillonite(MMT)with12-aminododecanoicacid(ALA).ALA–MMTwasthenusedasafillertoprepareaseriesofcompositepolymerelectrolytesbasedonpolyacrylonitrile(PAN)andLiClO4.TheeffectoftheadditionofALA–MMTonthepropertiesofthecompositepolymerelectrolytes(CPEs)wasinvestigatedbyXRD,FTIR,DSC,tensilestrength,ACimpedance,andcyclicvoltammetrymeasurements.ItwasfoundthattheALA–MMTparticleswerewelldispersedintheCPEs.OwingtotheincorporationofALA–MMT,ahigherfractionofthefreeanionswasobtained,indicatingthatthelithiumsaltdissolvedinthePANmatrixmoreeffectivelyfortheCPEthaninthePAN/LiClO4polymerelectrolyte.Moreover,theglass-transitiontemperaturewasreduced,benefitingtheiontransport.ThebestionicconductivityatroomtemperaturewasobtainedfromtheCPEwith7wt%ofthemodifiedclayand0.6MLiClO4perPANrepeatunit(CPE-7)andwasmorethanseventimeshigherthanthatfromthecorrespondingPAN/LiClO4polymerelectrolyte(CPE-0).Themechanicalpropertyandthecationtransferencenumber,tþ,ofCPE-7arelargelyincreasedcomparedtothatofCPE-0.Besides,theCPEswereelectrochemicallystabilizedupto4.75Vandthecorrespondingcellexhibitedexcellentelectrochemicalstabilityandcyclabilityoverthepotentialrangebetween0Vand4.0Vvs.Li/Li+.
