AnenvironmentalprotectionrouteforproducingPANfibersbymeltspinningisbeingdeveloped.TheapproachinvolvedformingpolyacrylonitrilewithplasticizerAwhichcanbemelt-spunintofibers.PANfiberswerecharacterizedusingSEM,DMAandtensiletesting.DynamicmechanicalanalysisshowedthattheglasstransitiontemperatureofPANdecreasedsignificantlyowingtotheadditionofplasticizerA,whichwillbebenefittothesubsequenthot-drawingandobtaininghighdrawingratiobecausetheplasticizerAcanminishtheinteractionofPANmacromolecules.ItwasfoundthatPAN/plasticizermassratioof50/50wasthesuitablecompositionformeltspinningandthetensilestrengthofPANfibersfabricatedatthespinningtemperatureof185oCcouldreachto4.0cN/dtex.Thefibershadadensestructurerevealedbyscanningelectronmicroscopy.
