Structuralcharacteristicsofpolypyrrole(PPy)-coatedpolycaprolactam(PA6)fibercompositespreparedbychemicalvapordepositioninthepresenceofferricchlorideastheoxidizingagentwereinvestigated.Amulti-layeredcoatingstructurehasbeenobservedbyTEM,whereacompactanddenserlayerexistsbetweenthePPyandPA6fiberswithtwodiffusedlayersoneachsideofthedenserlayer.TheexperimentalresultsshowthatthereisnochemicalinteractionbetweenPPyandPA6inthePPy-coatedPA6fibers.However,thereisastrongerinteractionbetweenPPyandPA6moleculesintheinterphaseofPPy-coatedPA6fiberafterheat-treatmentatelevatedtemperature.ThesurfacemorphologyofPPy-coatedPA6fiberschangedwiththeapplicationofdifferentprocessingtreatments,e.g.swellingandheat-treatment.
